Annals of log confusion: SlurpConfirm404

This error.log entry confused me: [Wed Jun 11 17:09:03 2008] [error] [client 72.30.215.46] \ File does not exist: /var/www/that-darned-site/SlurpConfirm404 Looking it up in Yahoo Webcrawler FAQ unconfused me. (After I’d looked it up, I saw that the IP is owned by Inktomi Corp. – ye olde searche outfit.)

Hating on Sarge

Your Debian Sarge’s web serving has gone weird on you. You restart processes, trouble prevails. Then try this. sudo netstat -tlnp What you’d need to get the apache2 process id, to sudo kill -9 <your process ID here> it. A few times… When all are dead, restart. “It’s a Sarge thing.”
