reboot: Aftermath

Update: Rebike. I was in on building it.

Had a long walk over the harbor area of Malmö, explaining it to Tilmann.

We saw:

  • Mai tai, of which we know nothing. A ship bar/restaurant.
  • a skatepark, with a rock band (5 guitars, 1 bass, 1 drummer), and a set of Rock Band players, and two sets of Super Street Fighter (on XBox 360)
  • boulder problems being worked on by rock climbers. “Problems” is what they call it. Each with a level of difficulty. Made me think of Jan Kogut, Polish rock-climber-hacker-wild-man

Also, lots of buildings.

Til’s car had a soundsystem which put them all – yeah all – to shame. Then he took off, heading south. Happy trails, T.

Reboot 11: day 1 recap

Solar bike panel folks Sebastian and Tomas showed a short “Rocket” wireless adapter, which I liked so much I had to do business with them and buy one.

2W of power consumption: best in the world. 2.5W under full load, streaming media through it.

Met Peter Ferne, of Bristol Wireless, a social enterprise to hand out wireless internet connections and really use the network. Those folks have built a hackerspace, and their meeting got so large every month that had to restructure it. “We spent so much time listening to project updates that people got fed up with it.” Now they have a more action-oriented format.

We got to talking about how presentations can aid the “consumer culture” of going to watch what the geeks built, instead of geeking out yourself.

Oh, and I have been telling people in the region, and visitors, about the 11 July event at Forskningsavdelningen, the Hack Night festival. It’ll be a blast. And quite, quite interesting.

New Lit! Pär Thörn books arrived

Ah! My colleague walked in here, to my screen, and handed me a big brown envelope.

Padded.

Full of… three thin books, all by literary genius Pär Thörn. One our great humorists. He is funny, for real.

You might not find anything about Pär Thörn in English. He recently made an audiobook of an out-of-print earlier book. This move is good, since his readings are quite unique and well-phrased.

Literature entered my life again, who knew?

The Butterforger

This is the roleplaying game scenario I wrote for the anthology The Empire, which ran at Fastaval 2009, now in the language that Oscar Wilde was able to play in.

I accidentally hit the Publish To Blog button. I will now remove the fulltext from here, so that I can control the updates to the text, from a single location.

This translation was a labor of love, and it was done within the amazing Gnavpotveksler project, which has more translation projects for you to read and participate in.
